Cascade Lava Beds Ride – Hwy 242

Posted By TwoWheelsTebo on July 30, 2010

Today, I rode a route that I’ve been wanting to ride for a long time, and something or other always came up and I never did it.  The road is Hwy 242.  It runs from Sisters, through the lava beds, to Hwy 126.

It was one of the most enjoyable and scenic rides I’ve done in a long time.  And twisties?  Oh yeah!  A ton of them!  Leaving sisters, you have a great view of snow caped mountains and lush green fields.  That soon turns in to (more…)

Ride to the Ghost Town of Wendling, OR

Wendling Covered Bridge

So this afternoon, my dad and I took off for Wendling, OR (Flag 7 on the map below).  Wendling is a Ghost Town from the late 1800’s.  There is not much of it left now…at least not much that you can see from the road.  I’ve heard that there are some remains of old buildings from the mill that are on private property, and by now covered in blackberry bushes, but from the road all we could see was one concrete structure.  I have included an interesting article about the history of (more…)

Crater Lake Ride

Posted By TwoWheelsTebo on June 7, 2010

Sunday I got an email from a buddy of mine that said he was riding home from CA to ID and was coming through my area.  I decided that I would ride with him for an hr or two on his way back home.  So, he spent the night at my brother’s place, then Monday morning we got up and headed over the Oregon Cascade mountain range on Hwy 20.  We road together until we got to Sisters, Oregon.  At that point, after shooting the breeze for about 45 min, we parted ways.  He headed for home in Idaho, and I headed South, not knowing for sure where I’d end up going.  I had an idea that I might go as far as Crater Lake, but didn’t know what other options might distract me.  lol So, I just headed that direction.

As it turned out, I did go to Crater Lake National Park.  As I turned into the North entrance road, I could see that the gate was locked.  So, I didn’t even go to the gate and went back out to the hwy and headed West.  Then I came to my senses… (more…)

Ride to OR-229, down the coast & Exploring between Alsea & Monroe

Posted By TwoWheelsTebo on May 29, 2010

Another great ride today.  Even though it was overcast most of the day, it was pretty comfortable riding.  I took OR-229 from Toledo to Siletz, then on to Siletz Bay, for the first time in all my years of living in Oregon and driving to the coast on Hwy 20 bazillions of times.  It pretty, but was nothing  out of the ordinary or spectacular from Hwy 20 to Siletz.  But once I got on the North side of Siletz, I knew why I took this road today.  Twisties like you wouldn’t believe and to top it off, the road was in decent condition.  And BEAUTIFUL it was!  :)  It’s a ride I will certainly do again some time.

The Planned Ride For This Weekend

Posted By TwoWheelsTebo on May 28, 2010

Below is a map of the ride I have planned for this weekend.  If the weather is good enough, I will do the ride on Saturday the 29th.  If not, I’ll try for Sunday the 30th.  This is a ride I’ve been wanting to do for some time now, because I’ve heard from another biker that Hwy 229 was paved recently and is a great motorcycle road now.  Well, I intend to find out, and I’ll let you all know what I find.  I will be pulling my trailer this time, so I’ll have 3 camera views for you in the resulting video.  And as usual, I’m taking my still cam and tripod with me as well.  I’m expecting a beautiful and fun ride, and should have some good pics and video for you by Monday or Tuesday if all goes as planned.

Be sure to watch my progress on the live map on the Today’s Ride Map page.  There you will see updates on my current location in near real time, as I ride.  :)

If anyone reading this blog entry would like to come on this ride with me, just email me and we’ll arrange a place to meet and head out.

Note: I have noticed that some times Google don’t display the route on embedded maps.  If you don’t see my route on the map below, click the “View Larger Map” link in the lower left hand corner, and you should see the route.

2:00am Pecan Pie Run

Posted By TwoWheelsTebo on May 27, 2010

Well, I’ve had this craving for pecan pie and ice cream all day.  So, at 2:00am, I finally gave in, hopped on my bike and made a pecan pie run down do the local truck stop.  At 2:00am, I’m not sure if this was dinner or breakfast, but hey…pecan pie and ice cream are always good!  Right?  And it’s double the pleasure when you get to ride your bike to the truck stop on a dark and rainy night to get it.  :) My stomach and my taste buds are all happy campers now.  :)

2nd SPOT Test Ride.  And A Great One It Was!

Posted By TwoWheelsTebo on May 17, 2010

Well today I set of on a ride to test my new SPOT 2 and try to learn how to use it.  The was really just an excuses to go on a long ride. :) 270 some miles and a long visit with a friend later I’m back and have a trip map and some pics for you.  :)

Initially I thought about riding up to Silver Creek Falls near Silverton, OR.  I decided to keep the destination open depending on what interesting roads presented themselves along the way…and one did. :) That road was Breitenbush Rd. off of Hwy 22 near Detroit Lake.  One of my Hwy boards had worked loosed and I stopped beside the road to tighten the bolt.

My first SPOT II test ride.

Posted By TwoWheelsTebo on May 15, 2010

Just got my SPOT 2 GPS tracker yesterday.  Today was my first test ride using it.  I have a few things to learn yet, but I did get it working.  Here is the map that was produced from today’s trip.  When I’m on the road, you would see a map like this one automatically update with my current location every 10 – 15 min.  Pretty cool if you ask me.  :)

VERY Impressive!

Posted By TwoWheelsTebo on March 25, 2010

Well, after shopping around locally and on the internet for new tires for my wing, I finally decided to try Baytown Accessories for Goldwings.  Not only did they have the lowest prices that I could find on the Dunlop Elite III tires, they offered free shipping.  So, I place my order yesterday morning.  To my surprise, the tires were on my door step today!  I was so impress with the pricing and service that I got from Baytown that I called them immediately to thank them and tell them how impressed and happy I was with them.  I am not getting a dime anything from them for this post.  This post is 100% because of how impressed I am with Baytown.  If you need tires, I would highly recommend them to anyone.

After talking to the owner, I discovered that their home and business were hit by Hurricane Ike and they lost most everything.  They are struggling to build their business back up after the destruction of Ike.  And with this kind of service, I’m sure they will accomplish that!  So give them a call today and get your new tires on the way.  You will have them fast and at a great price.
